Configure Cups for Linux when the default userid and password is not working

Here is a little information to configure cups in Linux to accept the default root password. We were recently performing an installation that required the cups print manager. It is not hard to perform and I hope it helps someone:

As root:

  • vi /etc/cupst/cupsd.conf
  • Change in the AuthType from BasicDigest to just Basic.
  • Change RunAsUser from Yes to No
  • Restart /etc/init.d/cups
  • In your web browser go to localhost:631 and enter the system’s default root ID and password.

Pretty simple. Once you have completed the changes you can add your printers.
